22nd May, 2021 #day111

Today marks the third month since the #22222SpringRevolution nationwide street protests that drew millions of people across the country. Due to the military brutality within those three months, the forms of anti-coup protest have changed significantly – leaning towards violence means. News of armed clashes in the frontier areas, bombings in the cities, extra-judiciary killings, and forced disappearances are more frequent on social media. KIA troops attacked two police posts in Khandee, Sagaing Region at around 4 am today. The military responded with four fighter jets. These posts are located near the jade mining of the military-owned Myanmar Economic Holding Company.

According to Mizzima unidentified gunmen from a car opened fire on soldiers stationing in front of a high school near Thuwanna Park in Yangon at around 2 pm, killing a solider. A local told Mizzima that at least six military vehicles were damaged in a shootout near the Kanni-Minkin highway in Sagaing Region. There have been several intense clashes between the junta troops and township defence forces in Kanni Township. Khit Thit Media reports that the People's Defence Force attacked and burnt down another military checkpoint in Demoso Township, Karenni (Kayah) State. Two villagers who were returning back to Daw Tawi village for foods were also shot dead by the junta troops. The military council has also reportedly ordered the Pa-oh National Organization (PNO), a Pa-O militia in Shan State, to reinforce in Demoso.

Five junta troops were killed in an ambush near Bu Kun village in Mindat Township yesterday, according to the Mindat People's Administrative Group. Eyewitnesses said the bodies of the soldiers were buried on the side of the road and claimed that soldiers had used drugs before the fighting as they found needles and marijuana near the village. During the previous ambush, CDF-Mindat said they found many WY tablets (Yaba) on military trucks. According to a statement on CDF’s Facebook, 12 police officers, including a sergeant, from Kanpetlet Police Station, did CDM, and the CDF will take responsibility for their safety. Family members told Khit Thit Media that Tun Latt, one of four youths arrested in Pyay on May 19, died four days later in custody. They were arrested on charges of planting an improvised explosive device.

Junta-appointed local administrators allowed gambling dens in rural areas under the pretext of village funding to discourage public interest in politics, Khit Thit Media reported. Soldiers and village administrators regularly collect large sums of money from these gambling dens and brothels. A gambling den near Swa Town in Bago Region generate more than 500,000 kyats (USD 300) a day, a local said. Referring to an order linked to social media, Mizzima reported that the junta is preparing to sell lottery tickets on a monthly basis to universities after losing huge amount of incomes due to public boycott. Netizens are mocking this order and joking that non-CDM professors and lecturers will be selling lottery tickets instead of teaching in schools.
