A summit of four Karen armed organizations – KNU, DKBA, KNU/KNLA-PC, and BGF – was held today at the KNU Law Khee Lar headquarters. According to the Irrawaddy, the main agenda of the meeting is ending the ongoing fighting between Karen armed groups. There have been clashes between the Border Guard Force led by Saw Chit Thu and other groups in Myawaddy and Papun townships.
The junta-controlled newspapers accused the KNU’s KNDO of arresting 47 construction workers in Myawaddy District, Kayin State on 31 May and killing 25 men of them. The KNDO denied the accusation and claimed that they were not construction workers but undercover soldiers and officers and that their uniforms and equipment have been seized as evidences, the Irrawaddy reported.
According to Myanmar Now, members of the Northern Alliance, including the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), are forcing village administrators in Mong Yaw village track in Lashio Township, northern Shan State, to cut ties with the junta and resign from their positions. On 11 June, more than 70 groups formed Interim Public administrative Group in seven townships in northern Shan State, where most Ta'ang (Palaung) people live. The group warned all the public servants to join CDM or leave the townships immediately.
United Nations OCHA Myanmar stated that security situation in Chin State’s Hakha, Kanpetlet, Mindat, Matupi and Thantlang townships, and some areas in Magwe region remains tense as fighting continues between the CDF and the junta troops. More than 18,000 people are living in 74 temporary displacement shelters after the coup. In addition, there are 9,850 IDPs in 27 camps in Chin State’s Paletwa due to fighting between the junta troops and the Arakan Army between January 2019 and November 2020. A local told Myanmar Now that houses in Kinma Village, Pauk Township, Magway Region, were set on fire by the junta today.
Local media reported that unidentified groups destroyed and bombed NLD offices. On the night of 13 June, the NLD Mandalay Regional office and the township office in Chan Mya Thar Si Township were attacked at night-time. After the coup, the junta closed all NLD offices and arrested party leaders.
Khit Thit released a video of the Rohingya Solidarity Organization's Maj. Kyaw Myint Tun announcing that they would open another front and attack the junta troops. Many netizens have commented in support of the announcement. Nathan Maung, an American citizen and editor-in-chief of Kamaryut Media, who was charged under Section 505-A of the Penal Code and detained for more than three months, has been released and deported to the United States, according to Myanmar Now. However, Han Thar Nyein, a Myanmar citizen and co-founder of Kamaryut Media, is still in custody.
