An estimated 230,000 people have been displaced across Myanmar since the coup, according to the latest report of the United Nations OCHA. Many of the them are in Karenni, Karen, and Chin States. According to previous reports of local relief groups, there are more than 100,000 IDPs in Karenni State alone and more than 40,000 in Chin State.


KIA and KNU leaders said armed clashes are more likely to be escalated across the country. A KIA spokesperson told Myanmar Now that the public should be prepared as fighting can break out anywhere, anytime. The KNU said in a statement on 24 June that it was "deeply concerned" about the casualties caused by the expansion of conflict, not only in ethnic areas but also in cities and that it would support the public as much as it could.

Six People’s Defense Forces based in Mandalay, Magwe and Sagaing have announced that they will work together to eradicate the military dictatorship. The Mandalay PDF has denied the allegations that its leader, Bo Tun Tauk Naing, was arrested after the attack on its base on 22 June. In connection to this news, the junta released photos of the seizure of a large number of weapons and ammunitions in Mandalay on 24 June.

A junta informant in Bagon’s Nyaung Lay Pin Township, another informant and a member of the USDP in Sagaing’s Depayin Township, and a junta-appointed local administrator in Yangon’s Thanlyin Township were assassinated on 21 and 25 June respectively, according to Khit Thit Media. Myanmar Now also reported that a USDP campaigner in Mandalay was shot and wounded in the assassination attempt today. In Thaton Township, Mon State, two village administrators have resigned from their positions, according to Myanmar Now. There was an assassination of a village administrator in Thaton on 21 June.

On 24 June, two clashes broke out between the junta troops and local PDFs in Sagaing’s Minkin Township, killing one PDF member and 19 members of the junta, according to DVB. Minkin PDF previously announced that the USDP party members would also be targeted for involvement in the junta’s terrorist activities.

A 13-year-old boy was killed by the junta’s landmine in a village near Mindat on 23 June, Myanmar Now reported. Mindat residents are returning to their homes after the junta and the Mindat PDF signed a ceasefire. However, about 70 percent of the IDPs in Kanpetlet have not returned to their homes due to their security concerns, locals told the Chin World Media. The junta will reportedly release many political prisoners detained after the coup tomorrow, according to the Mizzima.
