In an interview with Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV, coup leader Min Aung Hlaing admitted that he did not expect the public to react so strongly to the coup. Despite 847 dead, 5,785 arrested and more than 121,000 displaced, different forms of protests against the junta continue unabated across the country. The military leader claimed that there were 10.48 million voter fraud in the last election. He added that the AAPP’s report on number of civilian deaths (over 700) is flawed and said that the media do not report on the deaths of 47 police and soldiers and more than 200 wounded. He said the internet had been cut off due to incitement to violence through social media and the media.
At least 17 villagers, including a 4-year-old kid and two women, were killed during the junta troops at Hlay Swe village, Kyonepyaw township, in Irrawaddy Region, and more than 2,000 villagers were forced to flee their homes after the massacre, DVB reported. Locals said the incident happened because of a non-CDM teacher who faultily reported to the junta troops. According to the Kantarawaddy Times, the junta troops have been burning many houses in Demoso town since 4 June. The Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) told the Kantarawaddy Times that the total number of displaced people in Karenni State has reached around 100,000, accounting for a quarter of the state's population.
The junta carried out an hour-long Internet cut across the country while the NUG holding its online press conference at 5 pm on 4 June. When the internet reopened, netizens have mocked the junta for fearing the NUG despite the junta accusing the NUG of being an online government. NUG Deputy Defence Minister Daw Khin Ma Myo said at a press conference that the People's Defence Forces have been formed all over the country and will call for a war when the time comes for all people to participate.
Three CDF members were killed in bomb blasts in Hakha Town yesterday evening, according to Chin World. It is still unknown who carried out the bombings. On 4 June 4, the junta-controlled MRTV announced “Stay at Home” order in Tedim, Falam, Hakha and Thantlang townships of Chin State due to the outbreak of Covid-19. More than 100 people tested positive and at least six people have died from Covid in Cikha alone.
Brunei Deputy Foreign Minister Erywan Pehin Yusof and Asean Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi met with the junta leader in Naypyidaw on 4 June, according to the Nikkei. None of five consensus agreements of the ASEAN Special Meeting on 24 April have to be implemented. Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne has said the government has no plans to impose sanctions on the Myanmar military, saying it would restrict its influence over the military through its ASEAN.
