About 800 members of the military have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement since the coup, a CDMer Captain Lin Htet Aung told Myanmar Now. He said that about 50 to 60 soldiers contact him every day to do CDM, but most of them have not been able to do that due to security reasons. Majority of CDM soldiers are from the support battalions rather than the combat ones. According to him, about 75% of all CDM soldiers are preparing to support the NUG's People's Defense Force. Media reports also show evidence that CDM soldiers are providing basic military training to urban protesters at the border.
On 8 June, the NUG announced that it condemned the extrajudicial violence and called for non-violence against non-CDM civil servants, but they will be prosecuted after the fall of the military dictatorship. Khit Thit Media reports that two police officers were shot by unidentified group on 8 June in Mandalay's Patheingyi Township. One died on the spot and another later died at the hospital. VOA reports that junta-run television broadcasted last night a video of NUG Health and Education Minister Dr Zaw Wai Soe instructing to carry out the bombing and poisoning. The video has gone viral on social media, and Facebook later banned the content. NUG spokesman Dr Sasa responded that the video was fabricated by the junta.
The Irrawaddy reported that the junta is reinforcing its troops in Karenni State, where fighting has been intense, and more than 100,000 civilians have been displaced. Photos of more than 100 troops arriving in Leiktho Township on 8 June from Taungoo are also circulating on social media. The Kayah State Military Council sent a letter to its lower administration on 4 June instructing civilians to flee as the military is about to launch a massive operation to eliminate the PDF forces. Chin World Media reported that four military vehicles from Hakha arrived in Thantlang Township, where the CNF headquarters is located, on June 8. Tensions have risen between the CNF and the junta after the CNF signed of a biliteral agreement with the NUG. Moreover, there are also reports of clashes between the junta troops and the CDF which is widely assumed to be backed by the CNF in Thantlang and Hakha Townships.
At a military council meeting in Naypyidaw, the coup leader said that the country's fiscal year would be changed and that the country has changed positively over the past four months, according to DVB news. The NLD government has changed the previous fiscal year calendar, which run from April 1 to March 31, to October 1 to September 30 to be in line with international banking systems.
NUG Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung has issued a letter protesting the Chinese Foreign Minister's invitation to the junta-appointed Foreign Ministry to attend the China-ASEAN 30th Anniversary Meeting in Chongqing, China. The letter also condemned the statement of the Chinese embassy in Myanmar which described the coup leader as the country’s leader. She also expressed deep concern over China and ASEAN lack of adequate engagement with the NUG and urged China to understand the true situation of the country. on June 8, Japan’s lower house voted unanimously rejecting the military council and condemning the violence against the civilians, according to the DVB.
