Myanmar’s people are launching #yellowcampaign in Yangon as the pandemic worsens. Yellow flags are being raised in front of windows and doors when medical assistance is needed, and white flags should be raised when food is needed. Young people are also posting their contact numbers on social media, saying that they are delivering foods and medicines, as well as refilling oxygen tanks for free. However, there are reports that volunteers were also infected and died.
Five medical doctors who had been providing door-to-door medical services and online medical care to the Covid patients were arrested on 19 July in Yangon’s North Dagon. Their office was raided and some of them were caught by the junta troops pretending to be patients, according to Mizzima. Medical Family – Mandalay’s social media page reported that Dr. Thet Htay, a well-known surgeon in Mandalay, was also beaten and arrested by the junta troops on 16 July.
Family members of General Aung San, U Ba Win, Thakin Mya, and Comrade Ko Htwe did not attend the 74th Martyrs' Day Ceremony held by the junta troops in Yangon on 19 July, according to the Irrawaddy. Khit Thit reported that an RPG was shot at the gate of the Military Technical University in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region, at around 7 pm on 18 July. RFA also reported that a police station near the A Nee Sa Khan was also attacked.
In Bhamouk Township, Sagaing Region, an unidentified armed group arrested Deputy Township Administrator and Police Captain on the night of 18 July, according to DVB. The coup leader said on 18 July that there was no need to worry about rising egg prices as the military has been in chicken farming for the past six or seven years, Mizzima reported. Egg prices have skyrocketed in the market due to rumours that eggs have boosted the immune system of Covid patients.
According to the CDF-Mindat’s statement, there have been about 20 clashes between the junta troops and the CDF-Mindat since 24 April, destroying six military vehicles and killing around 200 members of the junta and 24 members of the CDF. The UNHCR announced that its convoy carrying non-food aids to displaced civilians arrived in Mindat on 19 July.
