On 6 July alone, there were a total of 3,602 new reported Covid cases and 52 deaths. In the country’s capital, Naypyidaw, the number of cases has risen sharply since early June, with 2,127 cases reported as of 3 July. Kachinwaves reported that many junta troops of the Bhamo, Kachin State, based 21st Brigade, are being infected with the virus, but their commander denied their leave request and ordered them to carry out their missions despite the outbreak. Therefore, some soldiers have fled their base and some have been detained. The Irrawaddy reported that Yangon’s Insein Prison, where about 13,000 people are being held, has suspended all the hearings due to the outbreak.

A retired Captain Zaw Naing Win, deputy director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who has been Aung San Suu Kyi's personal assistant since 2015, was sentenced to seven years in prison under Section 409 of the Criminal Code by the junta-controlled court in Naypyidaw, according to Khit Thit Media. Mratt Kyaw Thu, a freelance journalist, said that the pupils and assistants of the NUG’s Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe are also being pursued by the junta.

In some townships in Yangon, the junta troops are cutting off power lines to houses that do not pay their electric bills, Khit Thit reported. As part of the nationwide CDM movement, many households have refused to pay the bills since the coup. On 6 July, the Yangon-based Anti-Fascist Armed Force issued a warning to traffic police and department of electricity and energy not to help run the mechanism of the junta. They claimed that they have carried out six bomb strikes across the city.

Eight village administrators have resigned in Kawlin Township, Sagaing Region, according to Myanmar Now. The junta convoys and local administrators in Sagaing continue to be attacked daily by local PDF and KIA joint forces. Khit Thit reported that several junta members were injured in a landmine attack by KIA troops in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, on 7 July

More than 400 civil society organizations issued a letter protesting the convening of the third session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on 30 June by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH). The statement said that the parliament session should not be convened as the 2008 Constitution has already been repealed and this action could undermine unity and trust-building among the revolutionary forces. Aung Kyi Nyunt, chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and chairman of the CRPH, chaired the session, which was attended by 271 observers, including more than 230 NLD elected MPs.

During an online meeting between Union Ministers of the National Unity Government (NUG) and Japanese MPs, member of the Japanese lower house and chairman of the Japan-Myanmar Parliamentary Friendship Association Mr. Ichiro Aisawa said there is no government in Myanmar other than the NUG and that the military coup is unacceptable and would help the NUG government
