At the yesterday's military council meeting, the coup leader said they are planning to purchase seven million doses of the Russian Sputnik V or single-shot Sputnik Light vaccine and 5 million doses of Chinese vaccine. The junta is receiving criticism as the Russian vaccine has not received a recognition of the World Health Organization and the Chinese vaccine are rejected in many countries. The NLD government bought 1.5 million doses of India made AstraZeneca before the coup, according to Khit Thit media.
Due to the third wave of Covid-19, schools across the county will be closed from 9 July to 27 July, the junta-controlled Ministry of Health announced on 8 July. The NLD's Chief Minister of Mandalay Region Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, a cancer patient, is suffering serious illness as he has not been allowed to meditate at the prison hospital, Irrawaddy reported.
General Yawd Serk of the RCSS decided to resign from his role as the acting leader of the PPST, alliance of the NCA signatories, saying he wants to pay more attention to the conflict in Shan State. PPST is now led by three leaders, including vice chairman of the Mon armed group NMSP.
After the warning of the Yangon-based guerrilla group, three Electrical Office in Yangon were attacked with bombs on 9 July, Myanmar Now reported. In addition, a jewellery shop of the military council member Daw Thet Thet Khine was also bombed in Yangon. No casualties were reported in those bomb attacks. A fighting broke out between the PDF and the junta troops in the country’s southernmost Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region on 7 July.
The Chinland Defense Force announced yesterday that Chinland Defense Force – Kalay Kabaw Gangaw (CDF-KKG) has been formed in Sagaing Region. The statement said that the CDF will follow the guidance of the Chin National Front (CNF) and it will cooperate with the PDFs guided by the NUG.
According to a CNN report made at the CNF headquarters which based in the India-Myanmar border, the CNF leader said that more than 15,000 people have been trained throughout the country and the country is heading toward a conventional civil war. The report also stated that about 3,000 youths have been trained by the CNF after the coup. However, equipping the trainees with arms is the most challenging problem for the NUG, according to many news reports.
On 9 July, a fighting broke out between the junta troops and the joint force of the KIA and local PDF in Shweku Township, Sagaing Region, killing about 40 members of the junta troops, KNG media reported. According to the social media pages closed to the KIA, about six members of the joint force have been killed and 11 people were injured in the air strike.
Telenor Group announced that it has sold its operation to the M1 Group for US$105 million. M1 group is owned by the former Lebanese Prime Minister and billionaire Najib Mikati. Due to its business association with the junta, the Burma Campaign for UK has added the M1 Group into the Dirty List on March 2021.
