There have been growing attacks on police and military recently. A bomb exploded at a police staff quarter in Thandaunggyi, Magway Region, on the night of 13 August, and the Batetano Army claimed responsibility. It also claimed that a bomb attack had been carried out on Magway Air Force Base on 8 August in collaboration with local PDFs. The attack damaged six fighter jets and four of them were completely destroyed, a local told RFA. The junta spokesperson told the Irrawaddy that the attack was real.

On 14 August, six policemen were shot dead on the Yangon-Insein commuter train, killing four and injuring two others. The attackers also took four of their guns, the Irrawaddy reported. An eyewitness told Khit Thit that a traffic police was stabbed at the new Thirimingalar Market in Hlaing Township, Yangon Region.

The court-martial tires the battalion commander and officials of the 58th Infantry Battalion in Waingmaw, Kachin State, for suffering heavy casualties from the KIA attack on 29 July, sources close to the battalion told DVB. fighting broke out again between the junta troops and the CDF-Mindat on 14 August, killing two junta troops and wounding four others, according to the CDF’s statement. 

The junta troops have been launching a three-pronged offensive against the KNDF, PDF, and KA coalition forces in Karenni State since the morning of 14 August, according to the KNDF’s statement. The Kantarawaddy Times reported that up to 47 people have been infected with the Covid-19 in an IDP camp located at the east of Loikaw.

The junta-appointed the Union Election Commission announced on 13 August that it would examine all the income and expenditure accounts of political parties. The commission previously announced the annulment of the 2020 election results. A SNLD party official criticized the commission's statement as seeking evidence to prosecute parties standing against the junta, CNI reported. Chairperson of the National Democratic Party (NDF) in Kayah State, was assassinated in Loikaw Township on 14 August, according to the Burma Associated Press. The NDF is an ally of the junta-backed USDP party.

According to Myanmar Now, the junta has closed 31 pharmaceutical warehouses in Yangon on charges of manipulating the market prices. Yangon’s residents claimed that the closure of these warehouses had significantly delay the distribution of essential medicines for Covid patients and others. India online media Mint reported that since the coup, more than 8,486 Myanmar people had crossed into India but 5,796 had been pushed back.
