U Kyaw Moe Tun, the CDM diplomat and the Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the UN, told Reuters on 4 August that he received significant threats and the US government stepped up his security. He was charged with high treason in Myanmar. Meanwhile, the junta-controlled newspaper announced on 3 August that it would drop charges against protesters.
U Min Min Tun, a member of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Pyay Township, Bago Region, was arrested by the junta troops during his father's funeral, sources close to his family told Khit Thit Media. Kyaw Aung, secretary of the Hantharwady U Win Tin Foundation, was also arrested while attempting to get Covid vaccination, according to DVB.
A student at the Yangon University of Nursing and three people travelling from Sagaing’s Kinma village to Kamma village for medical treatment were arrested by junta on August 2, locals told Khit Thit. The Covid virus has spread to young people attending military training in the ethnic armed groups’ areas, BBC reported.
At a meeting on 3 August, the coup leader said they had controlled the Covid pandemic. However, local media reported that the death toll in Yangon has dropped slightly, but there are still many deaths nationwide due to oxygen shortages. On 4 August, 28 political parties, including the USDP, announced their support for the junta’s decision to annul the election results.
Netizen wrote that the prices of oxygen cylinders and other related accessories, which skyrocketed in the market, are now fallen sharply as Myanmar Muslim charity groups have taken the lead in ordering them from abroad and selling them without profit. According to the Facebook page of Myanmar Muslim Aid, they are selling a 40L oxygen cylinder for 200,000 Kyat which usually costs around 800,000 Kyat in the local market.
It was reported that KIA troops were attacking the Waingmaw based infantry 58 at midnight on 2 August. However, a KIA spokesman told KNG media that there was no attack and that the junta troops was firing in fear. The junta troops fired some artillery shells at the KIA headquarters in Laiza, Kachin State. According to Development Media Group, the Arakan Army in Rakhine State has reportedly written laws and is now launching a judicial department. On 1 August, the AA announced on social media that the public could now file complaints to them.
