At least 200 civilians have been killed by the junta troops in Sagaing Region alone between June and August, according to the NUG's Ministry of Human Rights. "We are working to submit these evidences to the UN Human Rights Council in September," the minister wrote on social media.
The 48th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council begins in Geneva today, with no Myanmar delegates present. The NUG said in a statement today that “the international community obviously cannot be relied upon to intercede on behalf of the democracy movement and secure the safety and well-being of the people of Myanmar from the frontal and brutal assault of the military junta.”
The junta ordered its troops to guard the Mytel and MPT mobile transmission towers as the PDF destroyed as many as 68 Mytel towers following the NUG D-Day announcement, a junta’s newspaper described. On 13 September, a checkpoint and a police station in Mandalay were targeted with bombs, killing two people and injuring 11 others, Mizzima reported. Victims were a junta-appointed local administrator and a female bystander who died of a heart attack.
The Chin National Army and the Chin Defence Forces captured and destroyed a strategic military base in Longler village, about four miles from the India-Myanmar border in Thantlang Township after two days of fighting. The CDF reports that 12 junta troops were killed in the clashes. But the DVB reports that many police and soldiers inside the camp did CDM. About 1,400 locals from 11 villages in Thantlang Township have been displaced due to fighting, the Thantlang Placement Affairs Committee told Khit Thit.
Aung San Suu Kyi's trial could not be heard today in Naypyidaw as she felt dizzy and could not speak, her lawyer Khin Maung Zaw told Irrawaddy. The trial had been suspended for more than two months due to the Covid pandemic. She has been charged with 11 counts. Last week, the junta’s special investigation team arrested about 75 money changers and 200 import/export merchants, according to RFA. At present, the value of the Myanmar kyat is depreciating sharply, reaching 2,100 kyats per US dollar.
