In a week, the junta troops killed twelve civilians, including a 72-year-old man who was beaten to death in Gangaw, Magway Region, and a 10-year-old boy who was shot in the neck in Thangtlang, Chin State, the Irrawaddy reported. As of 27 August, the junta has sentenced a total of 65 people to death, including two under the age of 18. Of those 65, 39 were sentenced to death in absentia, according to the AAPP’s data. 

The junta arrested Khin Sandar Win, the wife of Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister U Naing Ngan Lin, while she had gone to visit her husband in Insein prison on 25 August. The junta announced on August 26 that 12 people, including Khin Sandar win and two NLD MPs, had been arrested for supporting CDM civil servants and PDFs.

"The caretaker government will not hold onto power for a long period of time," the junta’s spokesperson said at the news conference on 17 August. The junta previously announced that it will hold power until August 2023. Ten members of the local PDF were arrested on 18 August with a large amount of weapons and ammunitions in Demawso Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, the junta announced yesterday. The Irrawaddy reported that a woman in Yangon’s Thanlyin Township was also arrested for financing PDF groups in Karenni State.

The junta announced a reward of at least 500,000 kyat (USD 300) for anyone with information of the NUG, CRPH, and PDFs, Popular News reported. A Rakhine State Students' Union official told Narinjara that they would retaliate against the detention of four Rakhine University students for almost a year without sentencing.

12 PDFs and underground groups in Yangon and Mandalay Regions had formed an alliance, the groups announced on 28 August. On August 24, Four local Chin groups, the CDF-Mindat, CDF-Kanpetlet, CNO and ZFU, also announced the formation of an alliance. Mizzima reports that the local PDF raided the Minbu Township District Police Station in Magway Region on the night of 28 August. The junta issued a letter on 20 August urging families of the junta troops to refrain from ordering items online as the mother-in-law of an army officer was assassinated by someone pretending to be a delivery man in Yangon.

On 28 August, the KIA and MNDAA ambushed the junta troops in Mong Ko Township in northern Shan State, killing almost all of the 525th Battalion. Of the three battalion commanders, two were killed and one was seriously injured, Kachinwaves reported. Two million doses of Sinopharm purchased from China arrived at Yangon airport on 28 August, according to Popular News. The Myanmar Chinese Chambers of Commerce (MCCOC) has been conducting vaccination program using Sinopharm since 21 August.
