 Dr Zin Lin, a CDM medical doctor, and Khin Khin Kywe, a nurse at Yangon’s 500-bed hospital, were among the four young people shot dead by the junta troops near Myaenigone bridge in Sanchaung township on 25 September, according to Khit Thit. They were involved in anti-coup protests and were active in the COVID response programs before the coup. Witness told Khit Thit that they were dragged out of their apartment and beaten on the street before being killed. According to the junta’s statement, one woman and three men, including three members of its troops, were killed in the exchange of fire. Dr Zin Lin is survived by a wife and infant. But his wife was arrested by the junta today, a relative told the Irrawaddy.


Regardless of the central bank selling millions of US dollars every day, the Kyat (ks) depreciated to a record high of 2,700 kyat per dollar on 28 September, reaching as high as 3,000 kyat on the black market, according to the RFA. Official exchange counters have reportedly closed their businesses due to the currency volatility and disequilibrium.

On 27 September, the junta announced another five-month extension of the nationwide uniliteral ceasefire from 1 October to 28 February 2022. Including this one, the military has made 20 extensions since December 2018, but has never halted its offensive across the country. At a junta’s meeting in Naypyidaw on 28 September, the coup leader said that some ethnic armed organizations are involving in terrorist acts, but the military is working very carefully to ensure the peace process is not compromised.

Conflict incidents across the country between 21 and 27 September killed 224 junta troops, doubling the number compared to the previous week, according to the NUG. A local PDF told the DVB that 16 soldiers from LIB 365 based in Mawlaik Township defected on 13 September while their battalion was conducting its mission in Kani Township, Sagaing Region.

On 24 September, the junta troops threatened to burn down Ngwe Taung and Nyaung Won villages in Singu Township, Mandalay Region, if villagers continued to live in the villages, claiming the land is military-own, Myanmar Now reported. Two villagers who went to Loikaw, Karenni State, to buy food were killed by junta troops and their bodies buried in pits, the BBC reported. 

On 29 September, near Kone Thar village between Moebye and Loikaw, local PDFs and KNPP joint forces attacked convoy of more than 40 junta trucks from the 66th Division. The PDF Moebye announced that its four members were killed in the clash. The PDF (Kalay) in Kalay, Sagaing Region, announced that it had eliminated a group that was looting and killing locals on 26 September.
