Within two days of the declaration of the D-day, the total incidents of clashes, explosions, and targeted assassinations across the country have escalated. On the day D-Day was announced, nine clashes and more than 30 bombings took place in at least 6 states and regions, according to NUG's Home Ministry. According to data compiled by Khit Thit, between September 8 and 9, a total of nine people, including three policemen, two local administrators, and one Pyusawhti members, were killed. A spokesperson for the junta also admitted that fighting was on the rise in Yangon and Mandalay after D-day declaration, the Irrawaddy reported.
The junta’s counterterrorism unit has issued a statement saying that anyone renting their houses or apartment to CRPH, NUG, and PDF members and their affiliates will be prosecuted under the anti-terrorism law, and property will be confiscated, according to the Irrawaddy. The Tanintharyi Defence Force (TDF) in Tanintharyi Region announced that its 100 troops have joined the NUG's Southern Regional Command on 9 September.
The KNU's Information Department issued a statement on 9 September urging the public to cooperate by not hastily publishing information about clashes between their troops and the junta on social media. Shortly after the statement, the KNU reported that KNDO Battalion 3 and KNU Brigade 5 jointly attacked and occupied a military base in Mudaw District this morning.
Inspections are extremely strict in some townships in Yangon, according to netizens. In Hlaing Township, about 100 people were detained at the police station last night for not complying with the household’s guest registration rule, according to the BBC. A military patrol car was hit by a bomb in Sanchaung Township this evening, killing several soldiers, including a police major, the Burma Associated Press reported.
On 8 September, Myaung PDF attacked and seized the police station in Myaung Township, Sagaing Region. The camp commander and two soldiers surrendered, killing two members of the junta, according to Khit Thit. Myanmar Now reports that the attack was a joint operation of at least four PDF groups in Sagaing Region. On 9 September, local resistance groups attacked the junta troops in Hakha and Thantlang Townships, Chin State, and Pakokku Township, Magway Region, according to media reports.
On 9 September, four Myanmar political parties, including the NLD, were invited to an online meeting between the Chinese Communist Party and political parties from Southeast Asia and South Asia. The Chinese government has previously informed the junta that it does not want the NLD to be announced unlawful. According to DVB, the Malaysian Foreign Minister criticized the NUG’s declaration of war as a failure of ASEAN’s role. The Special Advisory Council on Myanmar (SAC-M) said on 8 September that it was unfortunate that the declaration of defensive war had been declared, but that they understood the dissatisfaction of the NUG and the people of Myanmar upon the international community.
