The junta reportedly deploys about 3,000 troops to areas under the Northwestern Regional Military Command where it has been suffering heavy causalities. Two top commanders with the rank of lieutenant general have also been sent to the NRMC headquarters in Monywa, Sagaing Region, to oversee the operation. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani said at a UN news conference that she was deeply concerned about this massive deployment.
A source close to the junta told RFA that the former NLD’s Yangon Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein and his wife, Daw Khin Mi Mi Kywe, were taken away by the junta to Naypyidaw on 8 Octorber and threatened the wife to confirm her husband’s testimony against Aung San Suu Kyi in court. The junta has charged ASSK with corruption, and Phyo Min Thein is the main prosecution witness.
Former Rakhine State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu, who was charged under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code, was sentenced to two years in prison by a Sittwe Township court on 8 October, according to Development Media Group. A judge ruled that it will not allow a translator for Sean Turnell, an Australian economic advisor charged under the Official Secrecy Act, at his trial in Naypyidaw, according to the Burma Associated Press.
On 5 October, the Karen National Union (KNU), Women's League of Burma (WLB), and the General Strike Committee-Nationalities (GSCN) suspended their participation in the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), according to Shan News. Negotiations have reportedly been held later between the three groups and the NUG and CRPH, but neither side has issued a statement. The NUG announced on 7 October that it had formed the CDM Police Force Interim Administrative Committee to provide security and assist CDM Police and their families.
The junta-controlled newspaper accused ethnic armed organizations such as the KIA, KNU/KNLA, CNF, TNLA, KNPP, and the RCSS of profiting from domestic political change by providing military training to young people and taking military advantage, as well as drug trafficking and receiving funds from foreign organizations. The junta claimed several weapons that were seized in Mandalay on 5 October are a shipment from KIA in Kachin State to the Arakan Army in Rakhine State, Khit Thit reported.
The National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) formed by the junta held meeting with some political parties in Naypyidaw on 9 October, according to RFA. The military council has not yet released the reasons and participants of the meeting.
