Fighting between the junta troops and the joint forces of ethnic armed organizations and local defense forces has intensified across the country, with several fatalities from the junta side, according to local media and PDF’s social media accounts. Two days of fighting broke out in Pinlebu Township, Sagaing Region, killing about 50 junta troops, according to Kachin News. The junta has deployed about 700 troops in the surrounding townships.
In October, there were 275 clashes between the KNLA and the junta, killing 271 junta troops and injuring 266 others, according to the KNU. Two KNLA and KNDO members were killed, and 20 others were injured in those clashes. A spokesperson of the CDF-Mindat wrote on his social media account that about 25 junta troops were killed in two clashes on 4 November on Mindat-Matupi road in Chin State.
On 5 and 6 November, about 20 junta troops were killed when local defense forces and the Chin National Army attacked military and police outposts in Rezua and Hakha, Chin State, according to local media. On 6 November, a military patrol car was attacked in Yangon’s Kun Chan Kone Township, killing at least seven and injuring 13 others, according to the NUG's Yangon Regional Military Command.
In Kyaukme Township, Shan State, heavy fighting reportedly broke out between the RCSS and the joint force of TNLA and SSPP on 5 November, killing more than 20 RCSS troops and arresting seven. Salween News reports that the junta released four members of the student army ABSDF arrested on 2 November. They were arrested at ABSDF’s office in Myawaddy town after the ABSDF announced on 1 November that it would revolt against the dictator.
In Tamu Township, Sagaing, a local defense force, Death Note Tamu, released a list of 37 Pyu Saw Htee members on 4 November who were armed by the junta. The junta is also rumoured to have armed its appointed local administrators in many conflict zones. On 5 November, the junta troops arrested the owner of a popular Myint Myint Khin bakery in Mandalay on suspicion of supporting local defense forces, the BBC reported.
More than 50 of the 93 political parties have registered to attend the meeting to be held by the junta-appointed Union Election Commission (UEC), according to Popular News. The meeting will discuss about the PR electoral system and be attended by AFP, but the Arakan National Party (ANP) which won a majority in Rakhine State in the 2020 election and the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) will not attend, parties’ officials told Western News.
On 4 November, the junta-owned Mytel telecom company’s Chief Financial Officer Thein Aung who is a retired army major and his wife, Dr Thein Aung, were shot near his home in Yangon. Despite rumours that he was assassinated by PDFs, there are also speculations that it was actually an inside job.
521 civil society organizations have called on the UN Security Council to take action against the military junta for its atrocities against civilian. From 1 February to 3 November, 1,236 people were killed by the junta troops and 9,667 people were unjustly detained, the statement said.
An IMF spokesperson, Gerry Rice, said on 3 November that $ 372 million had been transferred to Myanmar in the days leading up to the coup for Covid-19 prevention activities, but that it has gone missing since the coup. However, a spokesperson for the junta responded that even though they were using it responsibly and transparently, the IMF’s statement was deliberately misleading the international community and disturbing their works in combating the pandemic.
