According to Myanmar Now, the Shan State Reconstruction Council/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) agreed with the junta in December to help transport aviation fuel to Taunggyi via Tachileik from the Thai-Myanmar border. The RCSS said in a statement that the allegations were false and unfounded. On 21 January, a video of UWSA troops preparing for battle surfaced on social media, suggesting tensions between the UWSA and the RCSS in southern Shan State are escalating.
On 21 January, a military tribunal sentenced U Jimmy (a.k.a) Kyaw Min Yu and Phyo Zeyar Thaw to death under Section 49 (a)/50(i)/50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. The Tachileik News Agency reports that the junta is planning to transform 42 townships into districts.
According to the CDF-KKG, 82 junta troops and three members of Chin coalition force were killed in clashes between 10 January and 22 January in Tedim Township, Chin State. The coalition force includes CDM Siyin, PDF Zoland, CNA, CDF-KKG, PDF Kalay, Zogam Army, PDA, CNDF, and Zomi PDF. Magway PDF issued a warning on 18 January that it will consider KBZ Bank as a pillar of the junta and attack them if it continues to block Kpay accounts of those participating in anti-coup movement.
NUG’s Minister for Defense U Ye Mon told the Irrawaddy that the Chinese embassy in Yangon had asked NUG not to attack their investment in the country after the Tigyaing PDF bombed power grip connecting to the Tagaung Nickel mining of the China-Myanmar joint venture on 7 January.
The Irrawaddy reports that planes carrying weapons from Iran have landed in Myanmar twice in the last few days. The Irrawaddy also reports that a Serbian delegation arrived in the country on 16 January for military cooperation with the junta. According to ACB News, Total and Chevron have announced that they will withdraw their investment due to the junta’s violence against civilians. The NUG also released a statement demanding the companies to transfer its taxes to the NUG.
