The junta troops shot and arrested wife and son of Mon State Chief Minister Dr Aye Zan, one of the leaders of the NLD, at their home on 3 January, family members told DVB. According to the AAPP, the junta troops are frequently targeting family members of those involved in the anti-coup movement. Two homemade bombs (IED) exploded near the Cambodian embassy in Yangon on 31 December, according to the RFA. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is scheduled to visit the country on 7 January and meet with the coup leader. According to the Bangkok Post, he is also expected to meet with Aung San Suu Kyi during the visit.
NUG said in a joint press conference with the KSCC that it would send evidence of the 24 December massacre in Mu So village, Karenni State, to the ICC. According to the KSCC, the bodies of three children and five women were among the more than 35 bodies burned. The junta responded by saying that the victims were killed during the fighting. According to Karenni State Police, 42 civilians were reported missing and the crime was committed by members of Pruso based LIB 531 and Brigade 66.

In an interview with Bangladesh-based Prothom Alo, the commander-in-chief of the Arakan Army said they would recognize human rights and citizen rights of the Rohingya people and that they needed 30,000 to 50,000 additional troops for the independence they wanted.
According to the KNU, two members of the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) were shot dead by the junta troops in the KNU Brigade 5 controlled area from 30 December to 1 January. The junta announced on 30 December that it would take action against any ethnic armed organisation that did not comply with the terms of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
Predictions of well-known fortune-tellers and monks saying that 2022 will be a successful year for the pro-democracy movement have been going viral on social media. According to Nikkei Asia, Norwegian telecom operator Telenor has agreed to sell 51% of its $ 53 million stake in Wave Money, a widely-used online payment in Myanmar, to its main partner, Yoma Strategic Holdings.
