In one year after the coup, a total of 1,526 people has been killed by the junta, including at least 130 children under the age of 18, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). In addition, a total of 9,006 people were arrested, and the military tribunals sentenced 118 people to death.
On 6 February, the junta issued a statement calling for peace talks with ethnic armed organisations on upcoming Union Day on 12 February. However, KNU spokesperson told Myanmar Now that the invitation was too late, and that the junta had already failed to comply with its commitments under the NCA agreement. An AA spokesperson also told Myanmar Now that the peace offer was dubious.
In a speech marking the KIO's 61st anniversary on 5 February, KIO Chairperson Gen. N'Ban La called on all resistance groups to unite under the leadership of the NUG to overthrow the military dictatorship. Members of Northern Alliances, AA, TNLA, and MNDAA, have also issued statement saying that they are willing to have military and political cooperation with the KIO/KIA.
Fighting between the junta and AA troops resumed in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State from February 4 to 6, according to Rakhine-based media. An AA soldier, two policemen, and seven junta troops were reportedly killed in the fighting, according to RFA. In Hpakant Township, Kachin State, fighting has been raging since 3 February, killing about 200 junta troops, including officers, sources close to the KIA told People’s Spring.
From February 1 to 3, the NUG's Yangon Regional Command said that it attacked 14 military targets, including the home of an Air Force Colonel. On the evening of 5 February, a total of 10 local people’s defense forces raided a police station and general administration office in Pale town, Sagaing Region, according to RFA.
On 3 February, U Myint San, a well-known activist in Ayadaw township, Sagaing Region, was killed by ZERO guerrillas, claiming to be Pyu Saw Htee leader. However, several local civil society organisations, including the township NLD office, issued a statement urging the ZERO to provide concrete evidence immediately.
